A Beginner’s Step Towards a Pilates Routine

I thought I was getting a little stale with my fitness routine, so I tried to venture into a different class to get myself refreshed. A Pilates class can be a good idea as I will be able to expand my fitness limits and widen my horizons more.

Pilates is very versatile as it allows me to perform it almost anywhere. With the current situation these days, classes held in studios and gyms have been cancelled. However, thanks to technology, streaming virtual Pilates can be done in the convenience of my own home.

Trying Pilates can be a game-changer regardless where I’d like to attend classes. It doesn’t even require me to be an expert in any fitness workout as movements can be taught gradually with grace at the same time challenge.

Know More about Pilates

So, what exactly is Pilates? Can a beginner do it, too? These are some of the questions that a newbie would like to be answered.

Pilates is a low-impact fitness routine. It aims to get those muscles strengthened while improving the alignment of the overall posture. It also promotes flexibility enabling graceful movements.

A typical workout can range from 45 minutes up to an hour. It doesn’t even require the use of any equipment. One thing is for sure – this workout will require slow movements that are precise. It will also teach breathing control and targets the core although it also works for the other areas of the body.

Specifically, Pilates is directed to work for the abdominal muscles. This will include the hips, inner and outer thighs and the abdominal region as well as the back. However, other Pilates teachers would also focus on other areas such as the lower legs, the arms and the glutes. With this being said, expect this workout to impact the entire body.

Different Pilates Benefits

Strengthens the Core

Pilates strengthens the core and helps it become more stable. Thus, it helps with posture, promotes flexibility as well as making people more mobile. I did aim to reduce body aches in terms of my daily life routine, and engaging in a Pilates workout helped me to move more swiftly as I carry out daily tasks.

Muscle Benefits

A Pilates workout helps promote body endurance. It helps abdominal endurance as well as flexibility. The upper-body endurance is also strengthened.

Ready to Start Pilates?

As Pilates brings about a lot of benefits to the body, starting a workout is a really good idea. With the current times, everyone needs to be fit and healthy. Thus, engaging in fitness routines that will promote body endurance, posture and stability should be done.

For beginners joining a Pilates workout class, here are some things to keep in mind:

Pilates can make use of equipment but usually it doesn’t need one.

There are two types of Pilates namely mat Pilates and reformer Pilates. Obviously, the first one makes use of a mat while the second one uses a reformer machine. Both workouts focus on body control without exhausting the muscles. Be sure to follow the instructions from the teacher especially in focusing on the given task while having breath control connected to the routine.

Beginner classes use the same class features.

There are some moves that are used in many newbie classes that feature breathing exercises. All of these have a main goal and that is to build core strength and make the body more stable.

Progression happens after one is already familiar with the basics.

Just like in any workout, advancing is possible after getting used to the basics. Pretty soon, challenging the muscles for a higher level of Pilates workout is already doable.
